Shopping for a pickup isn’t what it used to be.
That’s because pickups aren’t what they used to be. Gone are the days of the no-frills workhorse that you’d run into the ground before getting a new truck. Now, pickups are the most popular version of luxury vehicles today with many average sticker prices hover at or above $50,000. If you want, you can spec one of Ford’s latest Super Duty trucks to cost $100,000.
Some of this is due to the luxury appeal of pickups, but some of it is also due to the litany of options available on these vehicles. As you’ll find in this guide, some trucks have as many as four different engine options and three different transmissions.
And that’s just the powertrain options. Once you get into five levels of available trims, different sizes of touchscreens and customizable suspension packages, it can all get out of hand very fast.
